The chemistry of interactions between art and design
Simone Roveda deciphers the concept of beauty through contemporary alchemies, in which individual elements become a language in themselves, each contributing to a coherent and elegant narrative. The focus is on matter: its chemistry, its extraordinary versatility, and its ability to give rise to ever-changing stories.
Interior designer and creative director based in Milan, Roveda is also the founder of Interior Design Milano and Creative Director of Barone Italia. His work moves between design, creative direction and production, developing bespoke spaces, furnishings and installations for high-end residential, retail and hospitality projects, both in Italy and abroad.

The interaction between art and design lies at the heart of your work. Does it come naturally to you? “Yes. After completing art studies at high school, I graduated in interior design, and as a result I have always felt these two realities coexisting within me.”
Metal often plays a leading role in your projects. Is this a deliberate choice? “Yes, because I consider metal to be a primary artistic form and one of the most effective materials. It is stimulating and alive; it can change or transform completely in shape and colour through temperature variations or chemical processes. It therefore lends itself to extremely interesting treatments that define its evolution, which can alter the way light interacts with surfaces. Moreover, it can change over time due to atmospheric processes.”

How much does the location influence your design choices? “A lot, as it should. I love analysing where a building is located, studying its external façade and evaluating the surrounding context. Even when mixing styles, I always try to preserve the intrinsic character of the structure.”
Do you follow every phase of the design process? “In the studio, we are a team of five people. I rely on the support of skilled professionals, especially for structural aspects. We also make extensive use of artificial intelligence, which has become an invaluable tool for optimising the entire workflow.”
Art, design, and innovation, therefore: a conceptual exploration beyond any expressive constraint.
