A major restoration and renovation project has brought new life to a distinguished early 20th-century residence near Philadelphia
Restoring and reimagining a significant 1905 villa is never a straightforward task, especially when the aim is to preserve its stately appearance and pure Gothic Revival style.
This was the challenge embraced by renowned American interior designer William R. Eubanks, who was commissioned to transform this extraordinary estate, nestled in the verdant landscape of Gladwyne, along the historic Philadelphia Main Line.

The outcome is nothing short of exceptional, reaffirming the distinctive design language that has defined the designer’s outstanding projects for over two decades. With its imposing stone walls and timber trusses, the splendid home includes a multitude of rooms and spaces that extend across the main residence, a guest cottage, a gardener’s cottage, and the surrounding gardens and outdoor areas that complete this grand architectural ensemble.
Preceded by a spacious stone-paved portico, the main drawing room – accessed via a refined and elongated atrium – is a theatrical and representative space, both in terms of furnishings and ceiling height. Visually, everything converges towards the wooden balustrade, which centres on the antique fireplace below.

A romantic wooden staircase leads to the upper floor, which was originally conceived as a ballroom. The ceiling beams are hand-painted and sheathed in early 20th-century canvas.
Today, this level has been transformed to house four elegant bedrooms, each with its own refined en-suite bathroom. Every room possesses its own character, setting it apart from the others. Each is worthy of royal guests, yet offers all the comforts of modern-day living.
