The frescoed rooms of a noble palace have been enhanced by a new redesign, which has preserved the charm of the past
The interiors of a palace from the first decade of the 19th century have rediscovered a new spirit thanks to this makeover, combining 19th-century furniture with elements from the Art Deco period. The original structure has undergone changes in the layout of some rooms.
Upon crossing the threshold, the grotesque decorations of the main hall immediately catch the eye. A series of trellises highlights Medici vases in the centre with floral triumphs.
The grotesques have remained unchanged, while the colourful terrazzo flooring dates back to the early 20th century. Lozenge patterns, inspired by Moorish ornamental motifs, dominate, running in precise and repeated sequences, as if they were a precious oriental carpet.
The furnishings have been partially updated: in the living room, a small sofa and two armchairs from the 1920s have been reupholstered in an animal print fabric in white on white. On either side, two 20th-century étagères hold two jugs from the 1950s, matching the period of the round coffee table in front of the sofa. In a corner, on a faux Ionic capital, a Fin-de-siècle statue seems to hint at past atmospheres.
The walls, decorated as if they were wallpaper, actually feature frescoes with geometric rhomboidal patterns alternating with spiral motifs.
The atmosphere throughout the house has regained its liveliness; light pours into the rooms, illuminating the frescoed walls and lifting the spirits.
