A Milanese apartment from the early 20th century is reimagined through a project that weaves together memory, contemporary design, and intimate atmospheres
This project began with a clear aim: to transform an apartment in the heart of Milan into a home of authentic character, one that combines historic charm with modern comfort. Located on the second floor of an elegant early 20th-century building, on a central yet secluded street, the apartment retains an almost private atmosphere.

Covering around 150 square metres, the home stands out for its harmonious proportions and an architectural structure that tells the story of time. The stone thresholds of the stairs, the balanced volumes, and the solidity of the original layout became the starting point for a project that does not erase history, but rather enhances it.
The renovation, led by architect Chiara Airoldi, was the result of close collaboration with the owners, who from the outset had a clear vision of the character they wanted the home to embody. From this design synergy emerged an approach conceived as a true regeneration of the space, meeting the needs of contemporary life while allowing the memory of past habitation to emerge naturally.

The owners wished for a bright, characterful home that could converse with its surroundings, respecting the historical features while harmonising with contemporary living… and this goal has been fully achieved. The entire dwelling exudes warmth and an enveloping feel: here, the past is not a distant memory, but a living presence accompanying everyday life.
