45 square metres of striking character, where stone, history and rediscovered modernity converge
In the historic centre of Ostuni, architect Pietro Capitaneo has renovated this compact 45-square-metre space with a terrace, spread over three levels, for an American couple. Notably, the architect’s intervention focused on meticulously redesigning every corner and detail, resulting in a project worthy of attention.

The project’s aesthetic vision is grounded in the preservation and enhancement of the property, avoiding any overly vernacular approach, and instead tying domestic harmony to a restrained, Mediterranean sensibility. Designer furnishings and a careful study of light blend with the tactile quality of Grottaglie ceramics, lending the interiors a contemporary feel.
The small rooms that make up the building have been reimagined with precision and balance. The ancient vaulted ceilings create a continuous spatial flow, making it impossible to subdivide the interior; instead, individual functions have been subtly identified within the space. Light and neutral tones blend seamlessly, giving the space a sense of refined restraint.

The integration of two bathrooms and a kitchen presented a significant challenge, with the balance between functional requirements and respect for the existing structure defining the uniqueness of the project.
