FORGED IN HISTORY

23/06/2026

From a former 18th-century summer residence to a contemporary home: a historic identity that evolves over time, regenerating itself through beauty and functionality

At the end of the 18th century, an aristocratic family from Brescia commissioned an elegant summer residence. The building was used and modified over the years according to the tastes and needs of successive heirs, and it gradually underwent multiple decorative layers, eventually becoming, in the 1940s and 1950s, an exhibition space for a marble business linked to the founding family.

Later, the property was purchased by the grandfather of the current owners and underwent a major restoration and reinterpretation in a contemporary style. The renovation, on the one hand, restores the classical architectural imprint, characterised by strict symmetry and references to Palladian-inspired Venetian villas; on the other hand, it preserves the most distinctive original features, such as stone portals, columns, painted ceilings, doors, and decorative handles.

The original 1,000-square-metre internal floor space was divided into three independent units – two duplex apartments and a penthouse – thus creating a more functional layout for family living.

The home featured in this editorial, while maintaining a balance between historical details and more essential, contemporary choices developed in collaboration with Derada’s designers, combines classical and contemporary elements, evoking a Parisian-inspired style through the use of light French herringbone oak flooring, neutral palettes, and soft, luminous tones.

Finally, the surrounding park has been redesigned and reinterpreted as a large garden with a swimming pool and outdoor areas serving the ground-floor units. The exterior becomes an integral part of the renewed design, turning the garden into a relaxing private oasis to be enjoyed on a daily basis.
