In the heart of Bergamo, a measured and refined renovation turns a former short-let apartment into a contemporary home

From accommodation to private residence, the project – designed by dep studio and developed in collaboration with Casati Home and other prestigious companies – was driven by the desire to restore coherence and identity to an apartment characterised by a long, linear layout. Originally organised according to a serial arrangement of bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and shared spaces.

The design adopts a strategy of subtraction, removing incongruous plasterboard partitions to reveal the strength of the original floor plan. The result is an airy, harmonious home in which the long central corridor becomes both a visual and functional spine, naturally guiding movement towards the expansive open-plan living area that enjoys exposure on three sides and the private terrace.

Structural interventions were kept to a minimum, yet every decision was carefully calibrated. The reconfigured layout accommodates two bedrooms, a walk-in wardrobe, two bathrooms, a laundry room, a study, and a spacious, light-filled living area conceived as the focal point of everyday domestic life. The project’s design language is defined by a subtle balance between contemporary design and historical memory.

This is a home that does not seek to impress through excess, but rather expresses, with intelligence, an appreciation for detail, the value of thoughtful design and the beauty of an architecture capable of evolving without losing its soul.
