BETWEEN THE FOLDS OF THE LANDSCAPE

28/09/2026

A 19th-century building discovers a new identity through a project that weaves together memory, matter and contemporary design

Nestled on the slope with the naturalness of a composition that belongs to the place, the house looks out towards the plain and follows its topography. The L-shaped floor plan, the succession of levels and the construction features trace the building back to the early 19th century. The project was designed by architect Leonardo Togni, who worked in harmony with leading companies in the industry.

Rather than a transformation, the project is a reinterpretation. Preserving the external envelope and respecting its compositional features meant allowing the original structure to inspire every choice. The building is spread over three storeys at street level and four storeys facing the valley, following the slope of the terrain with natural ease.

On the exterior façade, the four-bay portico with arches resting on columns represents the heart of the restoration. Solid bricks and period stone columns have been restored, bringing back the space’s original character. Today, the portico is an open-air living room. Above it, the panoramic terrace is defined by a neoclassical balustrade with small columns.

Inside, the layout stems from the existing openings, which guide the relationship between rooms and light. The cantilevered staircase, with stone treads and a slim black metal railing, becomes a lightweight architectural feature.

The character of the home is confirmed by its ability to juxtapose elements from different eras without cancelling them out. Stone, wood, metal, marble and textiles build measured contrasts in a balance made of matter, light and memory. Here, time does not overlap: it flows from one room to another.
