The windows frame the Engadin, while wellness corners serve as an aesthetic celebration. The Carlton Hotel in St. Moritz has been (re)designed to amaze

When the red Bernina Express train arrives at the St. Moritz station, the natural landscape that unfolds includes the Swiss Alps and the majestic Carlton Hotel, a refined symbol of mountain hospitality.

Nestled on the sunniest side of St. Moritz, the hotel, founded in 1913 and now protected as a historical landmark of Grisons, retains the compositional grace of the early 20th century: a perfectly symmetrical façade, balconies facing the sun, and pediments that rise gracefully in the air, creating a harmonious profile against the Engadin sky.

The major restoration of 2007 faithfully preserved the architectural soul of the building, while breathing new life into its interiors. All the rooms have been transformed into suites and junior suites: true panoramic residences offering visual contact with the lake, mountains, and valley. The architecture embraces generosity: a few but spacious rooms, designed as private sets that open out to the exterior.

Five terraces open like a royal crown over nature: a privileged throne from which to witness the spectacle of White Turf or Snow Polo, as if they were high-altitude theatre performances. The Bel Etage, with its monumental fireplaces, is the true living icon of the project: a lofty lounge where one can feel part of timeless elegance.

However, the true heart of the Carlton beats within the interiors designed by Carlo Rampazzi, the Ticino-based designer with a visionary aesthetic, who blends architectural rigour and decorative theatricality in a language he calls “maximinimalismobili”, that is, essential lines, precious materials, and unique pieces that tell stories. Rampazzi designs and interprets space as a sensory experience.
