Once a boarding school, this Renaissance villa is reborn as a destination for discerning travellers and lovers of signature interiors

Collegio alle Querce in Florence ranks among the world’s finest and most remarkable hotels, having been awarded two Michelin Keys. It is a refined retreat for design aficionados: 83 rooms, 34 suites, an original chapel and theatre, as well as two restaurants and a bar. These spaces years ago housed the headmaster’s office of this much-loved former educational institution, which concluded its academic life in 2003.
Formerly a boarding school – as its name reveals – and before that a Renaissance villa, this monumental complex has today been transformed into a destination for selective travellers and connoisseurs of signature interiors. Crossing the threshold of Collegio alle Querce means entering a realm where each space preserves its original soul while opening up to a new idea of luxury hospitality: cultured and discreet.

The shared spaces offer a journey within the journey: the chapel and theatre revive the charm of former community life, while the two restaurants and the bar turn memory into a convivial experience. At Collegio alle Querce, design does not erase the past; rather, it welcomes and reinterprets it, playing with layers, volumes and textures that invite guests to pause, observe and breathe.
Behind this transformation lies the vision of the owner, Indian magnate Analjit Singh, who conceived Collegio alle Querce as a country house with a strong signature identity: not merely a hotel, but a place to be lived in emotionally. A concept perfectly aligned with the philosophy of Auberge Collection, the prestigious international portfolio to which it belongs, uniting properties defined by a handcrafted approach to luxury.
