Marrakech è una città speciale. Uno di quei posti dal sapore fortemente caratteristico che si possono raggiungere con poche ore di volo e conoscere anche solo in un week end lungo. Pur essendo legata alla storia e alle tradizioni, è diventata una città capace di gestire la crescita economica. Negli ultimi decenni, molte cose sono cambiate e per il proprio sviluppo Marrakech ha puntato sulla diversità.

Da un lato i quartieri più antichi saturi di tradizioni secolari; dall’altro quelli moderni che offrono strutture innovative e progetti d’avanguardia appena fuori dalle cinta murarie. L’accoglienza è diventata più raffinata, pur mantenendo tariffe accessibili ai più, con spostamenti pratici a piedi o attraverso i taxi, che sono decisamente economici. Il centro di tutto è la piazza Jemaa el Fna, un punto incredibile nel quale la vita pullula; impossibile perdersi la bellezza del mercanteggiare, gli incantatori di serpenti, il buonissimo tè verde che invita ad entrare nello spirito marocchino fatto di cose semplici eppure ricche.

E poi trovare pace al Jardin Majorelle, un lussureggiante giardino botanico creato dall’omonimo artista, con all’interno la casa blu cobalto acquistata da Yves Saint Laurent. La sua permanenza ha attirato tra l’altro molti esponenti della moda, trasformando la città in una meta di tendenza, che oggi ospita anche l’importante museo dedicato allo stilista. Per vivere al meglio Marrakech, consigliamo di alloggiare in un riad, la tipica abitazione marocchina, con un giardino interno situato nel cortile.

Ce ne sono molti e di prezzi diversi all’interno della Medina, il quartiere più antico e cuore pulsante della città rossa lungo le cui mura corrono i famosi mercati locati, i souq. In questi anni essi sono stati ristrutturati modificando in parte lo stile di accoglienza. Le strutture sono rimaste le stesse, tipiche del Marocco, ma il design contemporaneo ha portato una ventata di freschezza, luce e modernità che hanno raccolto immediati consensi da parte del mercato turistico internazionale. Se a questo aggiungiamo la possibilità di muoversi da uno all’altro, facendo poca strada e vivere atmosfere diverse, il passo per testare un’esperienza unica è fatto.

Marrakesh: a sensory journey

Marrakesh is a special city. One of those places with a strongly distinctive flavour that can be reached with a few hours of flight and easy to be visited even if just in a long weekend. Despite being linked to history and traditions, it has become a city able to manage the economic growth. Over recent decades, much has changed and Marrakesh bid on its diversity for its future development. On one hand, there are the most ancient districts saturated with centuries-old traditions; on the other hand, the modern ones which offer innovative facilities and state-of-the-art projects, right outside the city walls.

The hospitality has become more polished, while maintaining catchy fees with handy transfers by walking or by means of the cabs, certainly cheap. The heart of all is Jemaa el-Fnaa square, an incredible spot where life is teeming; it’s impossible to miss the beauty of bargaining, the snake charmers and the delicious green tea that invites you to get into the Moroccan spirit, made up of simple but rich things. And then you can find some peace at the Majorelle Garden, a luxury botanical garden created by the artist with the same name; inside, the cobalt blue house purchased by Yves Saint Laurent.

By the way, his stay attracted many fashion icons, turning the city into a trendy location that today hosts an important museum dedicated to the fashion designer too. In order to live Marrakesh to the fullest, we suggest you to stay in a “Moroccan riad”, a typical Moroccan house with an inner garden placed in the courtyard. There are many of them and prices are different inside the “medina quarter”, the oldest district and the beating heart of the “red city” along whose walls, the “souq” – the famous markets – are placed.

Over the years, they have been renovated, partly changing their reception system. Buildings are still the same – typical of Morocco – but the contemporary design brought a fresh take but also brightness and innovation that immediately aroused any sympathy by the international tourism market. Moreover, if we add the chance to move from a market to another one to this – a short ride to experience different atmospheres –, the step to test a unique experience is taken.
