Chi di noi non ricorda il periodo dell’infanzia in cui si giocava a indiani e cowboy? Le corse con le pistole di plastica, il cinturone in vita, l’arco e le frecce, i vestiti colorati da mettere a Carnevale.

Si emulavano i personaggi dei film western, quelli che correvano a cavallo per territori sconfinati raccontandosi bellissime avventure. Non ci crederete, ma il selvaggio West non è cambiato così tanto e visitarlo potrebbe essere una di quelle esperienze da ricordare tutta la vita.
Il viaggio non è breve, ci vogliono almeno un paio di settimane, ma la strada percorsa saprà emozionarvi facendovi masticare una bella fetta di America. Si atterra a Minneapolis, città gemellata con la vicina Saint Paul, capitale del Minnesota. Costeggiata dal Mississippi, meriterebbe da sola qualche giorno di permanenza, per i tanti laghi, cascate e torrenti, oltre che per la sua interessante storia di conquista.
Il nostro percorso punta invece verso il Nord Dakota e precisamente a Fargo, cittadina diventata famosa prima con il celebre film dei Fratelli Cohen e poi con l’omonima serie.
La crescita esponenziale e la notorietà non ne hanno cambiato l’atmosfera, con il cinema rétro dalle insegne al neon, i profumi di cookies e gli empori di artigianato locale.
Proseguendo, si taglia tutto il Nord Dakota avventurandosi nelle grandi pianure, fino ad arrivare a Medora: paesaggi di una bellezza sorprendente, bisonti, coyote e saloon nei quali mangiare bistecche e bere birra artigianale, tra veri cowboy.
Il Theodore Roosevelt National Park è imperdibile, coi calanchi colorati delle Badlands che arrivano ai mille metri nel Sud Dakota. Un punto di contatto fortissimo con la natura, il posto in cui vi sentirete più spesso sussurrare “wow” trovandovi immersi in 28.000 ettari di un’America indimenticabile.
Scendendo ancora si supera il confine per il Sud Dakota, raggiungendo le Black Hills dei cercatori d’oro, una terra sacra per gli indiani, oggi chiusi nelle riserve ma ancora orgogliosi di difendere i valori legati al rispetto della terra nel rapporto uomo-natura.
Tra corse a cavallo, sci e motoslitte sulle montagne innevate non può mancare una tappa al Crazy Horse Memorial, monumento del famoso capo Sioux e a pochi chilometri, quella al Mount Rushmore, con i volti dei quattro presidenti americani scavati nella montagna.

WILD WEST
Who among us does not remember when we were kids, and we used to play “Cowboys and Indians”? Running here and there with plastic guns, gun belts tight at the waist, bow and arrow but also colourful clothes for Mardi Gras.

Kids emulated the characters of western films, those who went horse-riding for boundless territories, telling beautiful adventures. You won’t believe it but the Wild West hasn’t changed that much actually and visiting it could be one of those unforgettable life experiences.
The trip is not short, it takes at least a couple of weeks but the path followed will touch you; you will get a “not so little” taste of America. You land in Minneapolis, a town twinned with the nearby Saint Paul, the capital of Minnesota.
Flanked by the Mississippi river, it alone deserves a few days to see its several lakes, waterfalls and streams, in addition to its interesting history of conquest. Our route heads towards North Dakota, precisely to Fargo, a city that has first become famous for the well-known film by the Coen Brothers and later thanks to the TV series of the same name.
The explosive growth and reputation didn’t change its atmosphere with a vintage cinema and neon signs, cookies flavours and emporia selling local craft products. Going forward, crossing the whole North Dakota and venturing into the Great Plains, we reach Medora, its landscapes are amazing: American buffalos, coyotes and saloons where you can eat steaks and drink craft beer among real cowboys.
You can’t miss Theodore Roosevelt National Park with colourful ravines in the Badlands which are more than 1,000 m high in South Dakota. A very strong contact point with nature, a location where you will hear a lot of “wow!” and “oh!” since you are surrounded by 28,000 hectares of unforgettable American land.
Going down to South Dakota again, you cross the border and later reach the Black Hills of gold miners, a sacred land for Indians who are nowadays cloistered inside Indian reservations but still proud to defend the values of respect and the relationship between man and nature.
Between horseback riding, ski and tours on snow-capped mountains, you have to stop by the Crazy Horse Memorial, a famous monument to the Sioux leader, a few kilometres from Mount Rushmore, a monument with the heads of four American Presidents carved in the rock.
