Redesigning a home to create a welcoming, comfortable, and informal residence
In New Jersey, when purchasing their home, architect Robert Lynch Steed and Matthew Adam Smith were attracted by the style of the 19th-century sandstone structure, characteristic of the neighbourhood. The choice represented the perfect balance between the proximity to NYC where they work, and the calm, cleanliness, and good quality of life that the new home offered.

Steed describes his personality as quite reserved and balanced, both professionally and personally, with one thing that stands out: finding excitement and fun in everything he does. This is reflected in the decor he chose for the home, which incorporates a wide range of bright colours in a mostly neutral base.

The approach to redesigning the new home was to create a welcoming, comfortable, and informal residence. Playing with touches of colour allowed for a personal and dynamic vision. Bold hues are dominating, in balanced quantities, in almost every space.
This is evident in the living room, where an orange sofa topped with multicoloured pillows stands out against the more pastel walls and floor; another distinctive touch is the gallery of empty frames hanging above the sofa; the same choice is repeated in the master bedroom, where we find a bright red armchair and a blue rug.

The same thing happens again in the kitchen, where we find bright red tiles with a peninsula with shiny red furniture, and a striped rug that adds more colours to the space. Between the perimeter furniture, black is interrupted by a yellow space, inside which a kennel space has been designed for Charlie, their Fox Terrier.
