In Mantua, the renovation of the piano nobile of a 16th-century palace unveils traces of the past while enhancing the present
In Mantua, a young family looking for functional convivial spaces, as well as more intimate and private areas, entrusted the renovation of a spacious apartment on the piano nobile of a 16th-century palace in the city centre to the expertise and professionalism of architect and interior designer Alice Negretti from Negretti s.r.l.
Once the work began, and after assessing the various alterations the interior had undergone over time, the restoration and modernization phases were focused both on recovering the few remaining historical elements – including the fireplace and two ceilings.
Aiming to highlight the past without compromising the new contemporary layout, the restoration works enhanced the present and the modern style, creating a harmonious blend of time and chromatic contrasts.
This house mainly develops on either side of the kitchen, which, placed in the heart of the apartment, serves as an important directional point between the entrance and the living room on one side, and the bedrooms on the other.
The old and the new coexist not only through careful choices but also with an eye on the future and the environment: the fireplace, for example, has been carefully restored and modernized with the inclusion of a bioethanol flame.
The stylistic harmony between history and reality creates various combinations, particularly in the sleeping area, notably in the master bedroom, where thematic contrasts, with a section of an arch left exposed, are expressed through the use of high-quality accessories.
Finally, embodying the spirit of contemporary design, the choice to craft a small staircase made of natural sheet iron, leading from the entrance to a charming terrace with panoramic views of the rooftops, is exemplary and innovative.
