The journey into the artist's soul is a tangle of threads
The exhibition “Chiharu Shilota. The Soul Trembles” at the Grand Palais in Pariscan be visited until 19th March . Born in Osaka, Japan, Chiharu Shiota lives and works in Berlin. She combines performance, art, and installations in a process focused on the body.

In 2015, the artist represented Japan at the Venice Biennale. Since the mid-nineties, the artist has been known for her works, created with intertwined wool threads, like spectacular networks, through which she shows the visitors their inner reality. Thus, visitors should identify and immerse themselves in the installation, finding their own way and their place in space.

Visiting the Parisian installation – distributed on over 1200 square metres of the Grand Palais, in which the installation is developed – means being surrounded by red and black threads, such as huge canvases that surround everyday objects, such as chairs, beds, pianos, and clothes. Chiharu Shiota undertakes a dreamlike journey, in which the intertwining of her creations explores the different forms of time, movement, memory, and dream, involving her viewers both physically and mentally.
