DIOGENE’S TUB

18/01/2023

A cottage on the shores of the lake to escape from the stress of the city and enjoy the benefits of being fully surrounded by nature.

“Sielskie Sioło”, or idyllic village, is the poetic epithet that the architect Konrad Tanasiewicz gave to the three cottages transformed into small houses.

They are all equipped with every comfort, including a pier and boat on the shores of Tobołowo Lake, Poland, near Wigry National Park.

It is the perfect place to dive into wild nature with long walks in the park, to swim in clean water or simply… to go fishing!

An old-style bathtub with hot and cold water has been placed on each pier.

Bathing in the very hot water when the lake is frozen is an unforgettable experience, a unique sensation like the one you get at the spa.

In the open air, they also placed a sauna shaped like “Diogenes’ tub”, with a glass window to admire the frozen lake during winter.

In the large and welcoming living room, the dominant feature is the wood-burning fireplace, which divides the large windows. Along the back wall, over the light sofas, there are paintings by the Polish artist Kasia Puchowska.

To give a greater feeling of warmth, due to the large amount of glass that is a constant throughout the house, the architect used several cushions and natural fabrics.

The dining table in the living room was made with a single rough wooden top, placed on metal feet. The floor plans used are panels that perfectly imitate wooden planks.

The living room leads directly into the kitchen, without any interruption. The heart of this environment is a large tiled kitchen with wrought iron elements that were also used for the doors, fireplaces and other furnishings.

The kitchen has both a modern and traditional purpose. A part can be used for cooking with wood; you can bake bread using the traditional method.

The other section is equipped with an induction hob for easier breakfasts or dinners, in step with modern times.

From the living room, you also enter the bedroom. The full-height windows allow you to admire the lake landscape all year round, and enjoy the splendid sunsets over the lake.

A comfortable and large bed is placed in the middle of the room. A romantic freestanding tub turns the bedroom into a bathroom with a view.

A fireplace with contemporary lines has been placed in front of the bed; the paintings and posters in the bedroom are by the painter Kasia Puchowska, whose other works can be found throughout the abode.
