Giulia ha tanto buon gusto e nutre autentico amore per la terra dove vive, Pantelleria. Racconta che Sikelia è il nome della prima provincia bizantina in Italia. Dice anche che Pantelleria, in arabo, vuol dire “figlia del vento” e che per questo tutte le colture, a cominciare dalle vigne di Zibibbo e per finire con le piante di ulivo, sono basse.
Giulia è la proprietaria di Sikelia, un resort di lusso ricavato in un antico dammuso di calce e pietra bianchissima. È aperto da tre stagioni nell’isola definita la Perla Nera del Mediterraneo, che emerge dai flutti tra Sicilia e Tunisia e che nel 2018 è diventata Parco Nazionale insieme ai suoi muretti a secco, Patrimonio Unesco.
Ambienti elegantissimi in un luogo magnifico, con strati di roccia e intorno mare stupendo, laghi naturali per la fangoterapia, resti archeologici e sentieri per percorsi di trekking. Insomma, un innesto architettonico nella natura più autentica.
La struttura si compone di 20 suites dai dettagli contemporanei e dai colori naturali: qualità ed essenzialità sono leit motiv e binomio inscindibile. Qui i coordinati sono in lino, le amenities di Hermès, e per la prima colazione il buffet è allestito per ogni singolo tavolo degli ospiti.
A Sikelia vige un’accoglienza attenta e personalizzata. Gli ambienti presentano sfumature cromatiche in sintonia con l’isola: il grigio che ricorda la pietra lavica, il color sabbia che eloquentemente rimanda al mare, il violaceo che rievoca qualche screziatura di bougainvillea e tanta luce per stabilire un dialogo costante fra dentro e fuori.
Anzi: a volte l’interno è in osmosi con l’esterno, come il sopra con il sotto, il vicino con il lontano. Come quando, su note jazz e nel tintinnare di coppe di champagne, si sale sul tetto del dammuso ad aspettare il tramonto. O si salpa al largo a bordo di una barca arredata con tappeti ricamati a mano. Sikelia è proprio questo: un’esperienza.

High-class hospitality in an ancient “dammuso”

Sikelia, the pure white resort on the black pearl of the Mediterranean Sea Giulia has a very good taste and a genuine love for the land where she lives, Pantelleria. She tells that Sikelia was the name of the first Byzantine province in Italy.
She also says that Pantelleria means “daughter of the wind” in Arabic and that is the reason why only low-height crops are cultivated, from Zibibbo vineyards to olive trees. Giulia owns Sikelia, a luxury resort carved from an ancient “dammuso” in lime and white stones.
A “dammuso” is a traditional type of building from Sicily. It has been open for three seasons on the so-called “black pearl of the Mediterranean Sea” that emerges from the waves and which became a national park in 2018 together with its dry walls, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Very elegant spaces in a magnificent place with layers of rock surrounded by a wonderful sea, natural lakes for mud therapy, archaeological remains and hiking trails; in short, an architectural insertion surrounded by nature in its truest guise. The building includes 20 suites with contemporary details and natural colours: quality and essential nature are an inseparable pair but also the leitmotif.
Here bed sheets are made of linen, amenities are branded by Hermès and breakfast includes a buffet set up for every single guest table. Sikelia offers a customized and attentive welcome. Spaces feature colour shades in harmony with the island: grey calls to mind lava rocks, sand tones eloquently suggest the sea, purplish nuances recall the speckles of bougainvillaeas and lots of light to establish an ongoing dialogue between indoor and outdoor spaces.
In fact, sometimes indoor spaces are in osmosis with outdoor ones, above matches below, near is coupled with far. It’s like being on the top of the “dammuso” waiting for the sunset, listening to jazzy notes and to the clinking of champagne coupes; or you can sail off in a boat furnished with hand-embroidered carpets. That’s what Sikelia is all about: an experience.
