In Capri, halfway between Marina Grande and the worldly Piazzetta, the Villa Excelsior Parco luxury hotel has been recognized as a landmark of the island’s hospitality, both for its strategic position – which allows you to reach in a few minutes the most famous destinations of Capri, on foot or using the electric shuttles available to guests –, and above all, for the charm of this Art Nouveau building of the early 20th century, one of the few on the island that has preserved its peculiar characteristics intact.

Designed by the French architect Édouard Chimot according to the dictates of Art Nouveau, Villa Lysis was the symbol of that intellectual community from all over Europe that had chosen Capri as a good retreat.

Decorated with stucco mouldings with floral motifs and mascaron ornaments, the villa still has Roman walls at the entrance and an Egyptian alabaster column.

It became a hotel in the 1960s, and it underwent subsequent redevelopment interventions. The building was recently revamped under the leadership of architect Marcella Canfora, a native of Capri able to reinterpret its architectural features, giving it further character and value.

In accordance with the Art Nouveau character and focusing on antiques that recall this style in a fresh Mediterranean reinterpretation, Marcella Canfora aimed at interacting architecturally with the other mythical residences of the island, drawing inspiration from them for some suites. An example is the Fersen Deluxe, which honours the historic Art Nouveau villa in the most panoramic area of the hotel, a bright and elegant environment boasting an amazing sea view terrace with a Jacuzzi.

In the other suites too – more typical of Capri –, Marcella Canfora managed to reach a pleasant harmony between the Mediterranean tones and the atmosphere of a magnificent living room with chinoiserie – typical of the wealthy foreign guests’ collections of the time.

As an example, the high-quality details such as the eastern-style screens reused as wardrobe doors, the suggestive chandeliers by Mariano Fortuny from the early 20th century and, Richard-Ginori porcelain from the Oriente Italiano collection.

The hotel offers ten different rooms: the classic rooms are original and eclectic, embellished with Art Nouveau furnishings, decorations in fresh colours and elegant lines; the deluxe rooms with garden and an outdoor Jacuzzi, where Made-in- Italy creativity coexists with the vintage charm of Art Nouveau.

There are also deluxe rooms with sea view, deluxe rooms with sea view and an outdoor Jacuzzi, and the aforementioned Fersen Deluxe suite. Among the facilities offered, there are exclusive boat tours to discover the Blue Grotto – the symbol of Capri –, cooking lessons, hiking in nature, cultural walks, gastronomic tours and wine tasting.
