L’Australia è il sogno di tanti, un po’ per l’idea del viaggio lontano, un po’ per le immagini che abbiamo in mente delle meravigliose terre sconfinate.

La Tasmania è uno dei suoi 6 Stati, costituito da un arcipelago di 330 isole emerse dall’Oceano Indiano. Vasti territori selvaggi, protetti per un terzo da riserve naturali per un polmone verde che accoglie. un’infinita varietà di piante e animali.
Fare un viaggio qui, significa volare a Melbourne e da lì fino alla capitale Hobart, caratteristica città portuale con allettanti negozi, gallerie e lo straordinario MONA, museo delle vecchie e nuove arti. Hobart è anche una meta culinaria di tutto rispetto, con la produzione di birra dello Shambles Brewery e i ristoranti che offrono cibo a km zero.
Da assaggiare le famose ciambelle di lievito naturale che si trovano al Farm Gate Market e le ostriche della Tasmania, accompagnate da un vino prodotto nella Tamar Valley, al Bangor Wine & Oyster Shed. Per finire, si può fare un salto nelle distillerie Larks, dove producono gin e whisky.
Anche se la natura è un elemento fortissimo, non dobbiamo immaginare questa destinazione come un luogo rurale ed arretrato; al contrario, ci si scopre un gusto raffinato ed un’accurata attenzione verso il design e le innovazioni contemporanee.
Troveremo quindi hotel ricavati magistralmente in vecchi edifici della compagnia idroelettrica, o sfiziosi ristoranti realizzati in un angolo di una fattoria. Tutto rigorosamente ecosostenibile, senza rinunciare al lusso e alla funzionalità. Noleggiare un’auto è una scelta immancabile. Le strade sono perfette, ben segnalate e servite. Attorno, le imponenti foreste pluviali ospitano alberi antichissimi alti anche 90 metri: il più vecchio pare abbia 43.000 anni.
Ovunque marsupiali saltellanti come canguri e wallaby, tenerissimi wombats e, nelle ore notturne, il più famoso animale dello Stato, il diavolo della Tasmania, piccolo mammifero che emette ruggiti smisurati.
Merita una visita anche Bruny Island, vero paradiso selvaggio per tante specie in via d’estinzione. L’esperienza qui risulterà più adrenalinica se farete un tour in Speedy Boat sulle acque impetuose del Mar di Tasmania; saltando su onde che possono raggiungere anche i 6 metri costeggerete frastagliate insenature e bianche scogliere dalle quali vedere facilmente foche, albatros e pinguini.

Unusual Tasmania
Australia is the dream of many: it concerns both the idea of a long-distance trip and the images we have in mind of these wonderful boundless lands.

Tasmania is one of its six states; it encompasses 300 islands in the Indian Ocean. Large wild lands, 1/3 of these territories are protected by natural reserves, a green lung that welcomes an infinite variety of plants and animals. Taking a trip there means flying to Melbourne and then to the capital Hobart, a typical port city with tempting shapes, arcades and the extraordinary MONA, the Museum of Old and New Art.
Hobart is also a very impressive culinary destination, Shambles Brewery produces beer and many restaurants offer 0KM food. Don’t miss the famous sourdough doughnuts at the Farm Gate Market and the Tasmanian oysters paired with a bottle of wine from the Tamar Valley, at Bangor Wine & Oyster Shed. And in the end, you can swing by the Lark Distillery which produces gin and whiskey.
Even if nature is a very strong element here, we don’t have to imagine Tasmania like a rural and backward place; on the contrary, it boasts fine taste and particular attention to design and contemporary innovations. Therefore, we will find hotels placed in old and former buildings belonging to the water and power company or extravagant restaurants placed in the corner of a farm.
Everything is scrupulously eco-friendly, without giving up on luxury and functionality. Renting a car is an unavoidable choice; roads are perfect, well-signposted and well-served. Everything is surrounded by massive rain forests with age-old trees, even 90 m tall: the oldest is apparently 43000 years old.
Bouncing marsupials are everywhere: kangaroo, wallabies, really sweet wombats and the most famous animal of Tasmania, the Tasmanian devil, a small mammal with a very particular growl that emerges from its shelter at night. Bruny Island is worth a visit too, a real wild paradise for many endangered species. Here, the experience will be more exciting and thrilling if you enjoy the Speedy Boat tour on the mighty waters of the Tasman Sea: riding 6 m-high waves, enjoying jagged coastlines and white cliffs from where you can easily spot seals, albatrosses and penguins.
