DREAMING OF PALLADIO

28/06/2024

The story of this project is intriguing; it teaches us how much beauty and importance we have in Italy, enough to make people from other parts of the world passionate about and fall in love with our concepts and styles.

Springs, East Hampton. James K. Pine, owner and head of an interior and exterior design company in NYC, wanted to build this villa in Palladian style.

James K. Pine told us: “I spent a lot of time in Italy, studying between Florence and Rome. Since I was young, I have always been obsessed with and intrigued by Palladio’s history. His work in Vicenza and the career he began to build with his unmistakable style at the age of 17 have always inspired me to do what I loved and, honestly, what came naturally to me.

My design ethic is rooted in the timeless elegance of classical aesthetics, enriched by my training in art history and architecture, particularly that of Rome. Palladio’s principles fascinate me, emphasizing the importance of understanding the rules to break them effectively.”

Four large columns, 8 metres tall, custom-made and transported from Canada with the tympanum enclosed in the pediment frame. Inside, in the entrance hall, you reach the upper floor via a large staircase, also custom-made by the interior designer, inspired by the staircase of the Winterthur Museum in Wilmington, Delaware.

In this project, the philosophy pursued makes every room act as a focal point, completed by key furnishings such as large windows, elegant doors, intricate crown mouldings, and charming fireplaces.

The passion for colour and fabric textures is noticeable throughout the villa, as well as the adaptability to the presence of children and pets. Priority is given to practicality, to make homes inviting and conducive to everyday living.
