In Mantua, a contemporary makeover redefines the identity of a historic apartment
In the heart of Mantua, within a renowned historic palazzo, a former office space – already modernised some twenty years ago – has undergone a remarkable transformation. Repurposed as an elegant private residence, the apartment has been entirely reimagined to suit its new function. The renovation was entrusted to the skilled team at Negretti Architettura d’Interni, who delivered an impeccably executed interior design project.

The makeover has given the apartment a polished contemporary character, while preserving and integrating elements of its original decoration. Frescoed ceilings and fragments of wall paintings have been thoughtfully highlighted with bespoke lighting fixtures, designed to enhance their visual impact. At the same time, the colour palette of these historic elements has been subtly echoed in the furnishings and the refined dark oak parquet flooring.
The stylistic choices are evident from the entrance, where the clean lines of the hallway – together with the geometric outlines of the adjacent hallway and the stairwell leading to the mezzanine level – create a striking contrast beneath the artistic splendour of the first ceiling fresco.

Finally, in the sleeping area, the present dominates over history: despite the presence of original exposed beams, which have been repainted, the design and furnishings of the bedrooms and bathrooms offer distinct and refined solutions, also tailor-made, as for the carefully designed walk-in closet.
