SUNRISES AND SUNSETS WITH A SEA VIEW

30/05/2025

On the hills surrounding La Spezia a 1970s house with original interiors and a breathtaking sea view

While retaining the charm of the era in which it was built, the house was transformed through targeted and bold renovations to reflect the owner’s lifestyle. However, the true strength of the house had always been its incredible location, with every window framing glimpses of the sea and spectacular sunsets.

From the first inspections, it was clear that the traditional layout didn’t do justice to the house’s potential. The demolition began, not only of the partition wall between the kitchen and living room but also of the small wall separating the living room from the hallway. False ceilings with elegant curves, inspired by the world of sailing, were introduced to play with volumes and visually connect the spaces.

The wallpaper, with its bold and distinctive pattern, became the common thread running through the house, giving it a unique character. It serves as a backdrop to the living room, where everything seems designed to enhance the sea view, and continues into the bedrooms, where it covers entire walls behind the headboards. Every piece was carefully planned to avoid repetitions, creating a dynamic effect that is never monotonous.

Another distinctive element is the lighting: the lamps are handcrafted by a local craftswoman from La Spezia, evoking the colours of the wallpaper. These handcrafted details add a personal touch and tell a local story. The rusted iron bookshelf recalls the sail-like shapes of the false ceilings, further connecting the design to the owner’s passion for the sea.
