In Assisi, NUN Relais represents the successful restoration of a medieval monastery converted into 18 suites and a spa.
The Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi is just a 20-minute walk away. All around there are villages of historical, artistic and naturalistic interest, typical of this portion of Umbria: Gubbio, Perugia, Spello, Mount Cucco Park, the Colfiorito Plateau, the Park of Mount Subasio and the Sibillini Mountains, as well as Spoleto and Norcia.
A privileged observatory of such open-air beauty is NUN Assisi Relais & SPA Museum, accommodation of discreet elegance, the result of a very successful restoration carried out in 2004 of what was originally the monastery of Saint Catherine, dating back to 1275.
Living in these spaces, one perceives that over seven centuries have not passed in vain: their imprint is everywhere because time has worked, smoothed, and refined everything, leaving a fascinating patina.
It is all authentic and exclusive: you can immerse yourself in the time that has passed, and come out of it in renewed vigour and deep relaxation.
The Relais offers 18 suites with panoramic views over the valley, at the same time in pleasant isolation from the liveliest streets, in an intimate and welcoming atmosphere. The white colours and the diaphanous textures of the furnishings create a fluid and uninterrupted dialogue between the complicity of the past and the lightness of a contemporary design.
The external architecture has preserved the horizontal development of the monastery, with a wooden and glass/steel balcony to benefit from the floor of the structure.
The goal was to preserve the historical value as much as possible, making NUN a natural museum with the original finds on display. The Church of Saint Catherine still exists, incorporated in the volumes, and now houses the meeting room.
The progressive expansion and restoration process of the historic building required years of studies and evaluations to reach the current layout.
The works began from the area of the current Spa, and part of the Roman amphitheatre came to light.
Even the garden, in accordance with the hortus conclusus of the monasteries, was conceived with aromatic herbs and stone seats of contemporary design, so that guests can enjoy the scents, silence, and peace of the place.
Breakfast and lunch are served in the external cloister during the summer. The gastronomic menu of the restaurant and the wellness offer of NUN Spa Museum complete the experience in a treasure chest of history… Where philology remains the only commandment that has been obeyed.
